Nikita and Matt’s blended Indian and Western wedding celebration took place over 3 days at the Washington Duke Inn in Durham. The team at Electric Karma sure know how to put together an event, because this wedding was simply breathtaking. I think we were all a bit exhausted by the end of the third day, but Matt and Nikita never stopped smiling. You can just tell how happy they are together. They started the celebration with an Indian Mehndi party, which is when the bride has her wedding henna applied. I just can’t get enough of all the detail in the henna designs. The next day was the Pooja ceremony (a prayer ritual) followed by the Sangeet. The Sangeet is basically a big party thrown the night before the wedding, and I could fill an entire blog post with all the amazing images from this fun celebration. There was intricate décor, great food, dancing, singing, and a lot of laughter. Of course, we also ventured outside for some gorgeous photos of the happy couple.
On Sunday, Nikita and the girls started the day with hair and makeup in preparation for the Hindu wedding ceremony. Shortly after was the Baraat, which is the groom’s processional. I think this is one of my favorite parts of the day. It’s just so much fun! The groom and all of his family travel to meet the bride’s family in a joyous processional filled with music and dancing. After Matt was welcomed by the bride’s family, he was lead to the Mandap (where the ceremony takes place) and the Hindu ceremony commenced once all of the guests were seated.
Special thanks to my 2nd photographer Lindsay. Click HERE to view Part 2 where we share our images from Nikita and Matt’s amazing western style ceremony and reception.
